CarePortal Speaks at White House about Child Welfare

Date

Washington, D.C. – July 31, 2024 – CarePortal was honored to participate in a White House convening on July 30, 2024, focused on transforming child welfare in the United States. Adrien Lewis, CarePortal’s founder and President, represented the organization on a distinguished panel that discussed innovative approaches to disconnecting poverty from maltreatment within the child welfare system.

This event brought together policymakers, child welfare leaders, and advocates to explore strategies for reducing unnecessary family separation and enhancing support systems that keep families together safely. CarePortal’s unique role in this dialogue underscored the critical importance of community-driven solutions in addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable families.

During the panel discussion, Adrien Lewis shared his personal journey that inspired the creation of CarePortal and highlighted the platform’s impact. “Twelve years ago, when my wife and I started fostering, we were not prepared at all. But we did have community,” Lewis said. “CarePortal was born out of the idea that by mobilizing local churches and agencies, we can meet families’ needs in real-time, preventing crises before they escalate. Neighbors seeing and serving their neighbors is about connection, and connection changes everything.”

CarePortal’s involvement in the White House convening highlighted its dedication to empowering communities to support one another and demonstrated the powerful impact of using technology for social good. The event emphasized the importance of policies and community initiatives that address the root causes of family separation, particularly poverty, and foster a more equitable child welfare system.
